Widening Access to Palliative Care Services

Palliative care is a holistic approach to health care that improves the quality of life of patients facing a life threatening illness and their families, through proper management of symptoms, addressing psychosocial, legal and spiritual needs. The Department supports activities that contribute to the integration of palliative care into the health system and ensuring equitable access of the population to these services.

The Department is committed in 2017 to continuing its contribution for the realization of the highest attainable standard of health and well-being of people in need of palliative care. To that aim, we will:

  • monitor and put continuous pressure on the government to meet its commitments for strengthening palliative care;
  • participate in national processes of service planning;
  • enhance state accountability;
  • monitor and advocate for greater allocation and spending on palliative care services;
  • and support the development of palliative care in the Transnistria separatist region.
