Labor sector reform continues in Moldova with the support of the Foundation

Soros Moldova Foundation and Expert Group Independent Analytical Center gather the efforts of experts, donors, and authorities for better coordination of social protection policies for people who work informally as a part of the Open Society Foundations’ Debt Relief Campaign. The Government is to start reforming the State Labor Inspectorate – the watchdog which will monitor the observance of workers’ rights.
Expert-Group Independent Analytical Centre, with the support of the Foundation, organized a Chatham House rules round table with development partners and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, where they discussed the importance of reforming the State Labor Inspectorate and its vital role in mitigating the consequences of the phenomenon of undeclared work in the Republic of Moldova.
The representatives of Government attended the round table event: Alexei Buzu, Minister for Labor and Social Protection; Corina Ajder, Secretary of State at the Ministry and the representatives of international organizations: the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Monetary Fund, OSCE, the United Nations Office, the French Embassy, Council of Europe, UNDP, US Embassy, Swiss Cooperation Office, UN Woman, Embassy of Austria.
Donors committed to supporting the Ministry in reforming the State Labor Inspectorate. The Minister and Secretary of State assured the authorities would implement the changes without delay, prioritizing the need for social protection of people working informally.
